Every tile shower is really two projects. There’s the one you look at, and there’s the waterproofing assembly underneath it that keeps water out of your framing.
The second one is invisible the moment the tile goes up, which makes it the easiest place in a house to save a few hundred dollars. It’s also where failures come from. A shower that wasn’t waterproofed properly doesn’t announce itself… It quietly rots the subfloor and studs for years, and by the time you see a stain on a ceiling downstairs, the repair costs more than the original bathroom.
We use one of two different waterproofing membranes that create a completely waterproof barrier. We even do a water test so you as the homeowner can see that the shower pan or tub won’t leak.
When we hand you a bathroom, the part you can see is the part we’re least worried about.

It’s a real problem and we plan around it. We would recommend you vacate the home till the new bathroom is completely finished, which is typically around 4-6 weeks.
Yes, and it’s one of the most common projects we do. It usually means moving a drain and rebuilding the floor in that area, so it’s more involved than it looks from the outside but it makes a small bathroom feel considerably bigger and it’s a good long-term move if you plan to stay in the house.

Yes. Curbless showers, blocking in the walls for grab bars now so they can be added later, wider doorways, better lighting, and a bench built into the shower. Most of it costs very little extra during a renovation and is expensive to retrofit afterward. It’s worth deciding now even if you don’t need it yet.
